DRAFTLast updated 2026-10-12
This text is a draft awaiting the founder's final wording. It describes how the site works today; it is not yet the binding version.
What this site collects
The site collects nothing about you until you submit a form. The forms — the beta signup (for the Windows private beta or the Browser package early access), the pricing waitlist, the contact form and the one question asked after the browser extension is uninstalled — send what you typed to our database in the EU, together with a hashed form of your network address for rate limiting and, for the first three, the page you were on. The contact form may also arrive with the topic, product, version and browser filled in from the link someone clicked (for example, from the browser extension); you can change or clear them before sending, and nothing else is attached.
Why, and on what basis
The beta signup and the pricing waitlist are used to email you about the beta and about pricing, on the consent you give by ticking the box and confirming the link we email you (double opt-in). The contact form is used to reply to you. Nothing is used for anything else.
The browser extension
The SnipSteps browser extension can send us a handful of anonymous usage counts. This is off by default: nothing is sent unless you switch it on in the extension's settings, and you can switch it off again at any time. When it is on, the extension sends at most one report a day, holding only the items below. Never a web address, a page title, a label, an image, a licence key or any identifier of you, your browser or your device. Your network address is used, hashed, to limit how often a report can be sent; it is not stored with the counts, and the counts cannot be traced back to it.
- the report format's version number
- the day the counts are for
- your plan (free, browser package or studio)
- the extension's version
- the browser family (Edge, Chrome or Chromium)
- how many guides you created that day
- how many of them had 1–5, 6–15, 16–40 or more than 40 steps
- how many times you exported as HTML, as a package or as Markdown
When you uninstall the extension
Uninstalling the extension opens one page on this site with one optional question: what made you uninstall. The extension passes nothing to that page — no identifier and no address parameter — and the page sets no cookie. If you answer, we store the choice and the line you wrote, with the day we received it and nothing else; your network address is used, hashed, to limit how often the form can be sent, and is not stored with the answer. If you close the page, nothing is sent. The usage counts and the uninstall answers are deleted after thirteen months.
Activating a licence
A purchase email's Activate link carries your licence key after the # in the address, which browsers never send to a server; the page hands that key to the SnipSteps extension installed in your browser and removes it from the address bar at once, and it loads no analytics.
Who processes it
Our database and functions run on Supabase in the EU. Confirmation and notification emails are sent through Resend. The site is served by Cloudflare Pages. Each processes the data only on our instructions.
How long we keep it
An unconfirmed signup is deleted after a set number of days. A confirmed signup is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Contact messages are deleted twelve months after you send them — long enough to reply and follow up — or sooner if you ask.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, withdraw consent at any time, and complain to the Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman (Tietosuojavaltuutettu). Write to the contact address on the imprint page.
Cookies and analytics
The site sets no cookies and uses no third-party trackers. Analytics, when on, is cookieless and counts page views without identifying you. Your browser's session storage remembers a few things about your visit — whether the opening animation has played, whether you hid the demo bar — and they end with the tab.
