Why the steps stay on your PC
DRAFT· By SnipSteps
This post is a draft awaiting the founder's signature. It describes the product as the site shows it, not as the product ships.
SnipSteps writes guides, SOPs and evidence on the machine that captured them. Why that is the whole point.
SnipSteps does the writing on the machine that did the capturing. The screenshots never go to a server to be written up there, so nobody has to ask where the screenshots of the payroll system went. A session is captured on your PC, processed on your PC, and written into a folder on your PC. The outputs are files you can open, email, or put in a ticket. Nothing is uploaded, because there is nowhere to upload it to.
What that changes
- The decision about where things go is yours. A folder on a laptop, a share your team already uses, a ticket. The product never makes it for you.
- A hidden value is hidden everywhere. The privacy mode you choose travels into every output, and a password never leaves the field it was typed in.
- Nothing to sign up for. A capture package opens in a current browser, on this site, without an account.
What it costs
Local-first means no shared library out of the box, no comments on a guide from a colleague across town, no automatic sync. Those are real. We think the trade is right for the people we build for first: the analyst documenting a configuration change, the tester who needs evidence, the trainer writing the guide for a system that is not theirs to expose.
